What Are The Symptoms Of Social
Anxiety
If you find yourself with
excessive, persistent fears about upcoming
social situations and if the anxiety you feel in
social situations is so severe it disrupts your
daily life, it is possible you are suffering
from social anxiety disorder.
People with sever social anxiety
disorder can have a persistent fear of meeting
new people, dating, public speaking, actively
participating in a classroom setting or talking
to authority figures (like a boss or teacher).
While everyone has anxiety about social
situations now and then, social anxiety disorder
sufferers find the illness limits their
lifestyle, in some cases causing them not to
participate in school, avoid making friends or
miss important opportunities at work.
The key symptoms of sever
social anxiety disorder include: An
extreme fear of social or performance situations
in which a person can be scrutinized or exposed
to unfamiliar people Intense anxiety or
avoidance resulting from fear of social or
performance situations Intense anxiety in the
form of a panic attack
Physical symptoms such as rapid
heartbeat, upset stomach, trembling, sweating,
tense muscles and blushing A realization the
above fears seem irrational An avoidance of the
feared social or performance situation, or else
the situation is endured with intense anxiety or
distress If you think you might have sever
social anxiety disorder, look at the questions
below.
If you answer yes to any of
these, talk to your doctor: Is being embarrassed
or looking foolish among your worst fears? Does
fear of embarrassment cause you to avoid doing
things or speaking to people? Do you avoid
activities where you are the center of
attention?
Sever Social Anxiety
Disorder With Other Conditions
Many people with social anxiety
disorder also develop depression or another
anxiety disorder as well. Some also abuse
alcohol or drugs as a way to see them through
social situations. This is because many people
with social anxiety disorder "self-medicate" to
lessen their anxiety before being exposed to a
stressful situation; alcohol and drug abuse may
develop as a result. Approximately half the
people who have social anxiety disorder have
another mood or anxiety condition. These include
alcohol abuse, depression and panic disorder.
Living With Untreated Sever
Social Anxiety Disorder
Untreated sever social anxiety
disorder is ongoing and difficult. While people
with this condition can temporarily reduce
symptoms by avoiding the social or academic
situation they fear, the underlying anxiety
remains.
Approximately 85 percent of
people with this sever condition have
difficulties in school and in their careers --
caused by their inability to meet the social
demands of getting and keeping a job or
achieving academic success. In one study of this
condition, nearly half of those with sever
social anxiety disorder were unable to complete
high school, 70 percent were in the lowest rungs
of the economic ladder and 22 percent were on
some kind of public financial assistance.

Ok...so the above is not a breath of fresh air.
But we feel that you should know what
professionals say. Do I agree...well not
totally, but then again, I deal with worry and
anxiety through humor. I do believe that we have
the mind power to conquer our fears and learn to
adapt to our situations. I know that others do
not, so they may find the information valuable.
